HEPA (Human Ecology Practical Area) Farmer Field School (FFS) is a pioneering training dedicated to strengthen indigenous youth. HEPA FFS lies at the heart of the 6 inter-thematic networks action of Mekong Community Network Action for Ecological Trading (MECO-ECOTRA).
Overuse of resources and the lack of a caring attitude towards Human-Nature relationships in many sensitive watershed ecosystems have been the major causes leading to land desertification problems, gradual erosion of social traditions, and the losses of ecological biodiversity.
The visit and work in Myanmar finished successfully
05/03/2014
My visit to the Metta Foundation in Myanmar finished successfully. The purpose of the trip was to promote the action-research program in the Mekong region and Bhutan, in order to expand and enhance the movement of eco-farming. I listened to and learned from the research presentations of five countriesinthe region. I noticed that the research that SPERI and FFSs have implemented is specific and unique in the movement.
Our Ethnobotany research, along with early results, has been warmly received by international friends. Five Ethnobotany books which I carried with memade a strong impression and the participants welcomed them.
The visit opened a new opportunity for young farmers of FFSs. For coming eco-farming training of young farmers in Myanmar, I suggested that Metta Foundation or the KMF organization should invite one teacher who is a young eco-farmer in FFS-HEPA, with Vieng Phet who is an intern already in Myanmar, to implement the eco-farming training course.
